The Norton Palliative Care Program

The Norton Palliative Care Program addresses the emotional, physical, spiritual, cultural and social needs of patients during times of serious or life-threatening illness. Norton Palliative Care Team members are specially trained in addressing issues of pain and symptom management and in providing emotional and spiritual support.

The Norton Palliative Care Team consists of:

  • Board-certified physicians for medical consult
    and palliative care
  • Nurse coordinator, certified in palliative care
  • Social worker
  • Chaplain

Norton Palliative Care Team services

The Norton Palliative Care Team recognizes each individual and situation is unique, and different life experiences lead to different palliative care needs. Team members listen to individual needs and openly discuss possible treatment options. The patient’s dignity remains the top priority of each team member.

Pain management

Pain is often a major concern for patients and families facing a serious or life-threatening illness. The Palliative Care Team works closely with patients and families to identify sources of pain and ways to relieve pain. Pain may be managed with traditional medical therapies or through other methods like massage and relaxation therapy.

Symptom management

A variety of symptoms from a serious illness impact daily comfort. These symptoms may include nausea, constipation, anxiety and shortness of breath. The Palliative Care Team assesses symptoms and makes recommendations to your physician that vary from traditional therapies to new treatments.

Emotional and spiritual support

A wide range of emotional, social and spiritual issues affect comfort and dignity. As you and your family face these questions, we offer support to deal with challenging situations and respect your choices on topics such as:

  • Caregiver planning
  • Financial counseling
  • End-of-life decision making
  • Spiritual support and counseling
  • Emotional support
  • Connecting to valuable community resources
