All indicators listed in this section apply only to babies requiring care in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Intensive care of newborns occurs at both Norton Suburban Hospital and Kosair Children's Hospital Rates shown for the indicators listed below are adjusted for the baby's birthweight. Typically, babies with low birthweights have more complications than babies who weigh more at birth. The rates for Kosair Children's Hospital are compared to a national average of all neonatal intensive care units that care for babies who need major surgery. The rates for Norton Suburban Hospital are compared to a national average of units that do not care for babies who need major surgery.
